The Aachen-based consulting and engineering service provider PEM Motion and the Berlin-based EdTech company XU have launched the online platform “XU School of E-Mobility”. The qualification initially offers around 45 hours of interactive formats in eight knowledge fields and 20 additional hours of topic-related learning content. It is aimed at all players in the mobility industry and is intended to help companies prepare their employees for the requirements of the coming years at an early stage.

“Car manufacturers and all their suppliers are facing a fundamental transformation that is redefining production, operations, and job profiles,” says Dr. Christoph Deutskens, CEO of PEM Motion. The coordinated programs of the “XU School of E-Mobility” are therefore designed to impart individual knowledge ranging from basic competencies in future mobility and practical know-how to expertise in the fields of battery technology and charging innovations. “In the near future, there will be an increasing demand for expertise in disruptive technologies: for example, in connection with drive electrification and autonomous driving, but also with advancing digital networking and the changing mobility needs of our society,” emphasizes Deutskens.

According to the partners, further qualification programs aimed at both beginners and experts are already in development and will be available successively in the coming months. These will focus, for example, on e-mobility drives in the commercial vehicle sector and on the topics of batteries, fuel cells, electric motors, and micromobility.

According to a recent study by the “Agora Verkehrswende” initiative, there will already be significant shifts in jobs and the required job profiles in the participating German industries by 2030 – for example, from mechanical engineering and vehicle technology qualifications to software and electrical engineering skills. As a result, nearly 760,000 employees in the automotive industry need to be retrained, with a good third of them requiring a high level of retraining and qualification. “To be able to develop these topics further in the companies, the concentrated transformative potential of the entire workforce is needed,” says Dr. Christopher Jahns, CEO of XU: “Isolated experts are not enough for this.”
