The cooperation started a few months ago between PEM Motion GmbH from Aachen, and Zeller+Gmelin GmbH & Co. KG from Eislingen has resulted in initial findings. The long-established company from the chemical sector in Baden-Württemberg, with almost 1,000 employees and 15 subsidiaries worldwide, is receiving strategic support from the Aachen-based consulting and engineering service provider in its realignment to the e-mobility sector. Until now, the independent medium-sized company, founded in 1866, has been developing and selling engine and transmission oils under the “Divinol” brand for many decades for the automotive sector.

“It has already become apparent after a short time that coolants and related products in thermal management hold enormous innovation and business potential,” says PEM Motion Managing Director Dr. Christoph Deutskens. The materials are mainly intended for use in the areas of battery, fuel cell, electric motor, and power electronics.

After Zeller+Gmelin had already started independently to build a new business unit and develop new lubricants for electromobility, PEM Motion is helping the Swabian company enter the market quickly. This is to be achieved by technical knowledge of e-mobility and implementing a new strategy involving numerous OEMs and suppliers in the industry.

The cooperation occurs within the framework of the industrial consulting project “Fit4E”. PEM Motion, which emerged from the Chair of Production Engineering for E-Mobility Components (PEM) at RWTH Aachen University, analyzes the core competencies of small and medium-sized industrial companies with a view to their potential for the e-mobility market. With “Fit4E”, the Aachen-based company has made more than 30 companies nationwide “fit for electromobility.”
