PEM Motion is shaping the mobility of tomorrow, today. Our company focuses on a variety topics in the field of electromobility and was founded in 2014 as a spin-off of the chair for “Production Engineering of E-Mobility Components” (PEM) at the RWTH Aachen University by Prof. Achim Kampker and Dr. Christoph Deutskens. We have established offices across Europe and North America in four locations and two joint ventures with more than 70 employees globally.

As a consulting, training and engineering service provider, we accompany our clients from the first concept through series production. By providing a pragmatic and holistic approach, PEM Motion excels in the development and deployment of smart technologies. Our activities range from product development, process design, and industrialization of electromobility components such as battery cells and electric motors to projects developing infrastructure, market analysis, and ecosystem management.

We have worked with various clients including automotive manufacturers, non-profits, suppliers, and start-ups across the world to realize future mobility solutions.

Over many years, we have built a wide network of innovation partners centered around our university partners in Aachen, Sacramento, Monterrey and Windsor. This network allows us to easily pull in highly skilled technical experts from a variety of fields and subject areas to solve any problem for our clients. Our ties to the universities allow PEM Motion to support projects that require both theoretical and practical knowledge of cutting-edge technologies.

As we grow across the globe from Aachen, we carry with us a pioneering spirit of constant innovation. We strive to provide a gateway for all third-parties to access the PEM Motion network and make new mobility affordable to produce in any location.

PEM Motion GmbH

Our location in Germany is the Smart Mobility Campus SMC, on the border between Germany and the Netherlands. Various pioneers of future mobility have settled on an area of about 10,000 m² and work together in an active network. In addition to office space, PEM Motion has a workshop area where we can assemble and commission innovation prototypes for our customers. Part of this equipment is an electronics laboratory where we can implement prototypes of our electronic components.

The location is closely linked to RWTH Aachen University, which has also leased space in the SMC. In addition to the area in the SMC, Aachen’s broad infrastructure can be accessed flexibly. For example, there is access to the eLab of RWTH Aachen University, where the complete infrastructure is available on more than 2,000 m² of hall space to build and test battery cells, battery systems, electric motors, and power electronics.

PEM Motion USA is a consulting service provider (business, training, technology & engineering) with a strong focus on future mobility. After being founded in 2019, we established our office in California’s capital, Sacramento. This location gives us proximity to politicians and decision makers in California and global industry leaders in Silicon Valley that are leading the field of future mobility.

We focus on supporting clients in the development of electric powertrains, alternative energy-driven solutions, and new mobility business models. We have experience with homologation, production planning, business/management consulting, and the creation of innovation ecosystems across the globe.

PEM Consulting Mexico SA de CV

PEM Consulting Mexico is a consulting company offering engineering and consulting services in the Mexican and LATAM markets. Being founded in Monterrey in 2015, we extended quickly to the rest of the country and established our main office in the highly developed industrial area of San Luis Potosí. In close cooperation with local universities, established international OEMs and suppliers, we develop tailor-made solutions for the industry to accelerate their own sustainable visions.

We support our customers in topics such as production planning, ramp-up support, business development and especially with the qualification of local personnel. The focus here is primarily on electromobility. But we offer as well services in the classic, internal combustion engine, industry.

PEM Production North America, LLC. Provides EV production, assembly and ramp-up services in the North American market. Focusing on the commercial vehicle segment, PEM Production NA supports its clients in the conceptualization, planning and ramp-up of their EV production needs utilizing PEM Motion’s long-time global experiences in the EV sector.

Together with our partners Automobility Enterprises, Inc. (AE) and LBBZ, a German EV assembler and laser cutting firm, we operate mainly in the heart of the automotive sector in North America, in the Great Lakes area and the former historical manufacturing belt.

Digital Drive Technik

Digital Drive Technik (DDT) is an engineering company with a strong focus on mobility electrification, Li-Ion battery integration, and Battery Management System development (BMS). As an engineering extension of PEM Motion GmbH in Mexico City,  DDT offers turn-key Li-Ion battery solutions and wide range of engineering services related to embedded systems and energy storage applications.

DDT’s custom BMS can be tailored to suit various customer needs and reduce time-to-market at a competitive cost. In addition, DDT has all the internal capabilities to assemble initial samples and produce full battery prototypes. Furthermore, the company has a global supply chain network to obtain the resources needed to manufacture lithium-ion batteries. This is especially important in the development phase.

Automobility Enterprises

Automobility Enterprises (AE) is a Windsor, Ontario based e-mobility solutions provider focused on the development and manufacturing of innovative products to support the future of sustainable mobility. AE is a joint venture established in 2021 by Windsor Mold Group, Integris and PEM Motion, combining over 80 years of experience in automotive and manufacturing.

AE supports customers from concept to series production and assembly, locally in Windsor. Equipped with a flexible assembly line, uniting technology partnerships and innovation from around the globe focused on fuel cells, battery technology, electric motors and propulsion technologies, AE offers turn-key EV services and solutions across several applications and markets, with a focus on commercial vehicles.
